For Maria Antonia’s 2020 picoftheweek challenge week 4. Yeah I’m still catching up … grumble grumble stupid pain meds … my prompt for week 4: By the Book

I’m a reader. I read prolifically, voraciously, and well, a LOT. When I saw this urban artwork in Taipei, Taiwan I was delighted.

but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.”

SoCS – Choices

From our SoCS host Linda G. Hill – Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “choices.” Base your post on the subject of making small, uneventful choices. Enjoy!

2.1.20 choices

A tiny piece of shell adorns my wrist
chosen from the thousands on the beach
a small reminder of how fate can twist
our will and choices become so hard

A left when I should have turned right
lead me to a long and winding path
showed me life through a different sight
and that has made all the difference

For at the crossroads I stood alone
there I waited for so long
until you came and took me home
and here we’ve stayed, together

A left or a right, choices near and far
It’s not our words, or even our actions
it is our choices that show who we really are
and that’s our choice to always be
where I have you and you have me

JusJoJan 30 – Unfinished Masterpieces

jusjojan 2020

For Linda’s JusJoJan 30 brought to us by Lauren at LSS Attitude of Gratitude our prompt for today is “finished.”

1.30.20 Blue Skies
Just an ordinary day January 2020

Blue Skies

White clouds float across
a panorama of blue sky
not azure, nor sapphire
no ethereal wisp of fog
no misty angel wings
just blue and white
like an unfinished masterpiece
too often taken for granted
magic in it’s ordinariness

JusJoJan 28 – a spot of tele anyone?

jusjojan 2020

Linda’s prompt forJusJoJan January 28th, 2020, is “television” and is brought to us courtesy of Barbara. Use the word “television” any way you’d like.

Six days post op. Activity restrictions abound, no lifting, no housework, no job work, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera (insert awesome Yul Brynner voice). You might think this would make for an excellent opportunity to catch up on some television shows. Yeah, not so much. You see, we don’t watch “television” never hooked the cable up, no antenna reception, we watch dvd’s or stream old tv series (can you say Star Trek?) Thirty minutes is about my tolerance limit and that’s without commercials. So instead, I’m spending my down time reading, catching up on some crafts and …. sleeping. I haven’t slept this much in years, unless of course it was in front of the television. 😉

Winter Skies

Winds from the south brought warm air to January skies
I watch the dirty remains of snow drifts melting
into tiny rivers flowing wildly down the asphalt
toward their destination of nowhere
a small crow lands on a scraggly winter brown shrub
and boldly caws, daring the song birds to return early
for he knows, as I know, that this winter is far from over
the air will chill again, more snow will fall
and I have plenty of cold days remaining
days to savor the peace and solitude of winter
a warm fire, a cup of tea, and a good book
come Winter and shroud my world
in your blanket of white stillness
for just a little longer

When things don’t go your way
and there’s nothing left to say
turn that frown, upside down

When life gives you the shaft
don’t be gloomy, have a laugh
and laugh away those blues today

Speculation and wild rumor
take it with a sense of humor
In the war on reality
it’s the only weapon we have

“Some days I eat salads and go to the gym. Some days I eat cupcakes and refuse to put on pants. It’s called balance.” ~unknown

“Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astair did but backwards and in high heels.” ~Bob Thaves

Balance is an illusion. Stand on one foot, feel the muscles in your foot and leg shift to keep you upright as your mind wanders or the wind blows. You adjust, you stay balanced. This is life. It’s a thousand tiny adjustments, every day. ~Me to my yoga class Continue reading “3.2.1. Quote Me! – Balance”

JusJoJan 17 – Jade

jusjojan 2020

For Linda’s JusJoJan prompt “Jade” is brought to us by MB, Thanks!

Sharra carefully wiped each leaf of the jade plant until it’s waxy leaves shone in the sun. Carefully plucking a few, she placed them in her basket. Her withered hands moved with the effortless grace of a much younger woman as she gathered the remaining ingredients for her prosperity charm bags. No more wars, no more fires. She was just the simple village witch.

With a wave of her hand, the old village witch vanished and she was once again, Sharra Fire Fae, her strong wings unfurled, Dreamsong, grasped in her sword arm, blazing with magic fire. War loomed ahead and her heart sang with battle magic. But that was so long ago. With a sigh she returned to her older image. “Sometimes immortality’s a real pain in the arse,” she muttered as she returned to her jade plant.

3.2.1. Quote me – day late, dollar short

OK so Rory is the host of the “3.2.1. Quote Me!” Challenge and I can’t resist this one. Plus, I’m probably spending a little more time sitting at my ‘puter than usual because I’m “recovering” from eye surgery yesterday. I’m a day late and a dollar short on this but I, literally, spent all afternoon yesterday at the Opthalmologist’s trying to figure out why 24 hours after surgery I can’t see out of my left eye. Anyway the topic was
