Spoonie Sunday – JusJoJan 19 – Gratitude and gobbledygook

For Linda’s JusJoJan prompt for January 19th, 2020, “gobbledygook.” Use the word “gobbledygook” any way you’d like. Today’s prompt is brought to us by Jim.

Spoonie Gratitude

“Gratitude is a choice I can make every day.” My dear Mother sent me a kitchen towel with that slogan on it many years ago during a particular low point in my life. Back then I was an arrogant 30-something with a career, children to raise and stuff to do. I regarded that precious slogan as a bunch of gobbledygook, nonsense meant for the weak willed. Spoonie Saturday My Life Tool Box

Chris posted a few days ago something that really got me thinking. OK, OK, a LOT of what Chris posts gets me thinking but this one in particular got me thinking about spoonies and coping and life tools and well, the Life Tool Box. It is such a cool concept, click on over to Chris’ site and give the original a read, you won’t regret it.

To me, a Life Tool Box, is comprised of all those “tools” that we use when life starts to go wonky, and in all honesty, as a Spoonie, life goes wonky pretty darned often. I have lots and lots of life tools. Continue reading “Spoonie Saturday My Life Tool Box”

Celebrate Life – Stream of Consciousness Saturday

For Stream of Consciousness Saturday

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “cele-.” Find a word that starts with or contains “cele” and use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!

Celebrate Life!

Today the weather is spring-like. Raining and cloudy one moment punctuated by glorious bright blue skies and sunshine, only to disappear beneath the next wave of clouds. Is this cause for celebration? You bettcha! Some years ago, I came upon a profound truth that we hold our lives in a kind of limbo, waiting for the celebration. We save the pretty china for company, we rarely dress up or we make ourselves just presentable when we’re home alone (and sometimes not even that). We go about in a state of anticipation, waiting, always waiting. Continue reading “Celebrate Life – Stream of Consciousness Saturday”

Those Days

It was one of those days. You know, THOSE days.

THOSE days, when you drive the 50 miles into town to have the car serviced. You have a coupon for oil change, tire rotation, and front-end alignment. Of course there’s an up-charge for the high mileage oil you use, OK, expected that.

THEN you remember that you need to get a new battery before the one you have leaves you stranded somewhere inconvenient. That’s cool but suddenly your $90 service turns into $230. Still, I can live with that. Continue reading “Those Days”

Simplicity — all you need is all you have.

serenity shot of the week

The simpler we make our lives, the more abundant they become. Sounds like an oxymoron doesn’t it? It’s one of those sayings you hear but don’t really comprehend until you start to live it. Superhubs and I have become “noodle folk” we are simple people, eat simple, live simple and our lives are so much more abundant that I ever dreamed possible.

In our former life, we lived in a 2000 square foot stick house, both held full-time jobs, were empty nesters. Sounds nice doesn’t it? Underneath it though, I was drowning in stuff and clutter. Not just clutter around the house (although there was plenty of that to go around) but clutter of the heart, mind and yes soul. Simplifying down to a minimalist life can be daunting, if not downright terrifying, but for me it was oh so worth it. Continue reading “Simplicity — all you need is all you have.”

For my granddaughter on her birthday

angels 2 pexels-photo-208001

Some angels walk among us
each and every day
with loving words and gentle touch
they kindly guide our way

We call them luck, inspiration
and by many other names
but no matter what you call them
they’re angels all the same

When I was lost in dark despair
with no hope in sight
the heavens sent and angel
to help me find the light

I am often times amazed
and the daily joy you bring
my sweet and precious granddaughter
my angel without wings.

Laugh and the world laughs with you

rock the rainbow

“Laugh and the world laughs with you
cry, and you cry alone.” ~ Ella Wheeler Wilcox

I don’t post a lot about illness and disease. I have them, I count my blessings, and my spoons. I live my life. I throw the occasional pity party, some times I cry, mostly I laugh. I have at times been horribly depressed, soul crushingly fatigued, insanely anxious and just plain morbid. Through it all I have held tight to one belief; that it is a mad, glorious thing, just to be alive.

I look for, and find, inspiration in all kinds of odd places. Right now, I’m digging song lyrics, specifically animated movie songs. Many of them are SO uplifting, just listen to the words and let them take you away for a few minutes. For your consideration today, a few of my favorite inspirational animated movie songs:

“Can you feel the love tonight?
it is where we are
It’s enough for this wide-eyed wanderer
that we got this far.
Can you feel the love tonight
how it’s laid to rest.
it’s enough to make Kings and Vagabonds
believe the very best.”
~Elton John ~Can You Feel the Love Tonight (Lion King)

“Who said that every wish
would be heard and answered
when wished on the morning star?
Somebody thought of that
Someone believed it
Look what it’s done so far.
What’s so amazing
that keeps us stargazing
what do we think
we might see?
Someday we’ll find it
the rainbow connection
the lovers, the dreamers
and me”
~John Williams ~Rainbow Connection (Muppet Movie)

And of course, no inspirational anime movie song list is complete without a nod to “Frozen”

“Let it go, let it go
and I’ll rise like the break of dawn
Let it go, let it go
that perfect girl is gone.
Here I stand
in the light of day
let the storm rage on
The cold never bothered me anyway.”
~Songwriters: Kristen Anderson-Lopez / Robert J Lopez~ Let it Go (Frozen)

Now, go put on some inspiring music, dance around the room, paint a picture, write a blog post; and if you can’t do any of those things, that’s OK, close your eyes and let your mind dance and sing.  Till next time  ~Peace  ~ JP

Not Today

Not Today

There may come a day when I will not seek new adventures,
when I will not long to see the view from the mountain top.
But not today

There may come a day when the pain and injuries of the past
will overcome and cripple me,
But not today.

This day is unique, it is unlike any day
that has come before and it is
different from any day yet to come.

I claim it as my own … to make of what I choose.
For this day, I choose to smile and laugh
and keep gratitude in my heart.

For this day, I breathe in the joy of life,
and choose to see the beauty
that is everywhere.

I know that one day pain and sorrow may come again
but not today.
For this day, I choose happiness.

My Place in the World

Sunrise in Kapaa, Kauai/Hawaii

Written for the Daily Post’s Weekly photo challenge: My Place in the World

Kapaa, Kauai/Hawaii

A warm breeze washes over me. Taking with it all my worries. I look down at my hands weathered with age and sun. Gnarled joints like an old tree, still telling stories. A tear slips down my cheek. A tear of joy. They do not hurt. My fingers, for the first time in many years, do not hurt. Chronic pain is one of the many prices we pay for the wisdom and serenity that comes with age. It comes on so gradually and it remains with you day in and day out. You ignore it, you become accustomed to it. After this many years, you don’t really even feel it any more. Until, quite suddenly, you realize that it’s gone. Not many know the joy of the simple absence of pain. Not mere relief from it, but the total absence of it. A few days, even just a few moments, of this euphoric feeling of “not hurt” is cause for serious celebration. I smile, big and wide until my cheeks ache from the effort. Then I bend to pick up a tiny shell and continue my walk.
