31 days of October challenge Some Kitchen Witchery

31 days October

For 31 days of October challengeTodays thoughts were inspired by Beckiesmentalmess do pop over and give her Witchy Poem a read.

Now first off, I love all types of witchery but by far my favorite is Kitchen Witchery. Secondly, it’s flipping cold and windy in mid-October and soups and teas are just my thing right now. Continue reading “31 days of October challenge Some Kitchen Witchery”

31 Days of October Challenge day 20 – Colder Weather

31 days October

For the 31 Days of October Challenge. Blame it on the nasty turn in the weather here in the Black Hills, but the Octobery thing on my mind today is colder weather

Rain falls and turns to sleet
Souls pass by but never meet
In the darkest hours people hold
each other against the cold
But I always passed by
no tears left to cry

But we have warmth and fire
and all that we desire
blinding cold removed from sight
hold me in your arms, so tight
As our love drives back the cold
take my hand and let it snow

31 days of October – day 18 – The Nightmare

For the 31 days of October challenge, I’ve chosen the subject of Candy, do pop over and check out all the really creepy cool contributions

The Nightmare

cellophane wrappers shiny and bright
shrieking done in pure delight
nightmares walk in broad daylight

childish demons hidden deep inside
the candy parents snatch and hide
while children sneak and try to find

snickers, reese’s, twix and more
smarties strewn all across the floor
good manners left outside the door

the four year old with angry screams
waistlines bursting at the seams
It’s not a nightmare, it’s Halloween

31 Days of October Challenge – a few of my favorite Octobery things

31 days October

For the 31 days of October challenge Laura has selected “What I love about Fall” I thought it a great prompt so here we go:

There is a crispness in the air
like the cranberry tart
baking in my oven

There is magic all about
by the waning moon I watch
A witchy fairy coven

Hot buttered rum or
chocolate dark and spicy
apple pie, a slice of heaven

The stillness of cooling air
birds quiet their song
pause in anticipation … Autumn

Ode to Autumn – a quadrille

31 days of October – Monsters

31 days October

For the 31 days of October challenge, Laura has chosen “Monsters” so I thought I’d follow suit. Well …. sort of.

An oldie but a goodie – Bobby Pickett – Monster Mash

And a personal oldie too – originally appeared 6/28/18 here on WEWS

Monster Under My Bed

I saw the monster coming
lurking in the night
I cringed as he drew nearer
he was a fearful sight.

Made up he was of anger,
of sadness and of fear
I backed up screaming “go away!”
“I do not want you here.”

For a moment he sat in silence
then he said “where should I go?”
“For I am more a part of you
than you will ever know.”

“How would you know goodness
if you’ve never known the bad?
What joy would you find in laughter
if you never had been sad?”

“Would you still love the sunrise
without the darkness of the night?
And if you’ve never done a wrong
how could you do what’s right?”

I smiled and slowly shook my head
that monster’s just a part of me
nothing there for me to fear
no demon to be seen.

I no longer fear the monster
he lives inside my heart
because the darkness and the daylight
aren’t so very far apart.

Ancient Rites – 31 days of October Challenge

Vintage Halloween

Melanie over at Sparksfromacombustiblemind clued me in to this awesome 31 days of October challenge brought to us by Laura over at lavent69. COOL. Sorry I’m so late jumping on the wagon but I am all over this one! Laura’s theme for today is “Primitives” Here is my contribution.

and of course of a bit of poetry

Hair unbound wild and free
she dances round the sacred tree
and sings her chant in rhymes of three

Fan the fire watch it grow
bring the creatures to the grove
where they come from no one knows

when at last the world between
signals planets align all unseen
Spirits rise on Halloween
