31 days of October challenge – Candy Corn

31 days October

For the 31 days of October challenge – Day 30 – today is national Candy Corn day in the US so in honor of my favorite fall confection:

Candy corn has been around since the 1800’s, so apparently I’m not the only person who loves it. As of 2016, annual production in the United States was 35 million pounds, or almost 9 billion pieces of candy. It is rather polarizing taste wise, people either love it or hate it. I’ve never known anyone who simply had no opinion on candy corn. For me it just wouldn’t be Fall without candy corn but it’s strictly a Fall thing. I don’t like Easter corn, Reindeer corn, or Cupid corn. I’m not one for those other shapes in “Autumn mix” there’s just something about the shape that goes with Fall.

Unfortunately with an ingredient list that lists such delectables as “sugar, corn syrup, and carnuba wax” at my age not a lot of the treat fits into my dietary regimen. But where there’s a will there’s a way and the internet.

My new favorite way to enjoy Candy Corn

31 days of October challenge day 29 – Witches

31 days October

For the 31 days of October Challenge because, “there’s a little witch in every woman.”

The Witch

Silently she flies across the moon
a bewitching figure on her broom
no need to fear, or run in fright
from the witch on evening flight

She’s fair of face and dark of hair
drifting swiftly through the air
I watch her with a whistful sigh
and then I wave as she flies by

Beautiful visage, unearthly sight
as she drifts along in soft star light
Words she whispers, songs she sings
all are mine this Halloween

The Sammi Cox’s weekend writing prompt of “Twilight” is too perfect a match for 31 days of October Challenge too so another mash-up.

Twilight Magic Dreams

Twilight glistens all around
near days end magic is found
like shimmering waves of sound
that are heard and yet unseen

Frost lies chill upon the ground
autumn dancing all around
darkness falling down, down
an eerie and unearthly scene

for tonight is Halloween

SoCS and 31 Days of October — DRESSING UP

For the Stream of Consciousness Saturday prompt brought to us by Lindaghill.com. Linda gives us the prompt of Dress. OK, I can work with that.

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is “dress.” Use it any way you’d like. Have fun!

One of the greatest joys of Halloween is that it’s the one day a year when grown ups get to play dress up without anybody staring. OK well maybe staring but like in a good way right? Continue reading “SoCS and 31 Days of October — DRESSING UP”

31 days of October challenge – Movie Magic

31 days October

For today’s 31 days of October Laura’s post about “Roseanne” got me to thinking about Holiday Specials. Now I’m not a TV watcher so no TV specials. I am, however, an avid movie watcher and Halloween movies are some of my favorites. Here are excerpts from a couple of favorites, although not strickly Halloween, they’re very Halloweenie 🙂

And some excellent Halloween Music

And don’t forget, movie munchies!

Mummy Dogs or Halloweenies

1 can crescent roll dough
2 1/2 slices american cheese
10 hotdogs
cooking spray
mustard and ketchup (optional)

Heat oven to 375F

Unroll dough, separate into four rectangles. Press perforations to seal.

With knife or kitchen scissors, cut each rectangle lengthwise into 10 pieces, making a total of 40 pieces of dough. Slice cheese slices into quarters (1/2 slice cheese, cut in half).

It’s the night of year
to be just what you’re not
be what you want to
be scary or hot

dress up and play
dance all night long

but Ghouls just wanna have fun

Not a fairy or princess in sight
just ghouls creating a dreadful fright
I want my mummy, now I’ve gotta run
’cause Ghouls just wanna have fun

31 days of October Challenge – Black Cats

31 days October

Today’s 31 days of October Challenge is brought to you by the rantings and ravings of my own mind spurred by Melanie at Sparksfromacombustiblemind who has some really creepy phobias (I’m right there with you on clowns girl).

I can’t think of Halloween without remembering my black cats. I’ve had several. Boo Boo was probably my favorite, so black she was almost red, slitted, creepy yellow eyes. The very thing cat phobias are made of but she was adorable and precious. Anyone who has ever had a cat partner will tell you, nobody owns a cat, especially a black cat.
