Share some highlights for you over the past decade and if you want, a few low points
Tag whoever you wish to.

Thanks to Di for the tag this is an awesome chance to reflect on a decade of ups and downs. To paraphrase, it was the best of times, it was the worst of times, a decade of joy and a decade of loss. Mostly it has been a decade of deep personal change.

In the 20teens (between 2010 and 2019) we’ve had some low points.

Death of Mother
Death of younger Brother
Death of Father
MS lesions progressed to spinal cord
Pneumonia
Death of longtime friend’s grandson at 14 years old
Loss of Son to drugs (not dead, just lost)
Financial disaster in the form of botched foreclosure of former home
2 brain surgery, 2 strokes, brittle diabetes, grand mal seizures (Superhubs)
2 total knee replacements, 3 eye surgeries, cardiac incident (not a heart attack but a “glitch” in rhythm 1 night in hospital)

Wow, and I wonder why my stress level tends to be high! lol

But there were lots of High Points as well

Return of prodigal son (beat the drug addiction, got his life together, currently 4+ years clean)
12 trips to Taiwan/China, mostly business but we also did a ton of sightseeing
2 trips 2-3 months each to New Zealand – awesome, awesome, awesome!
4 trips to Japan (Kyoto and Osaka) more awesomeness
Trip to UK, Stonehenge ROCKS! (sorry that kind of slipped out)
Trip to Scotland – Nessie LIVES, caught him on sonar
Several trips to Hawaii, Oahu and Kauai
Oregon, Utah, Kentucky, South Dakota, Wyoming, too many national parks to mention, all stunning but Zion is awe inspiring and Yellowstone is breathtaking
2 more grandchildren born (total now 10)
3 great-grandchildren born
Superhubs’ nearly miraculous recovers from aforementioned brain surgery
Final resolution of botched foreclosure (expensive but worth it).

That’s the good, the bad, and the ugly of the decade. On to the questions from Di:

Is there any year in the past decade that stands out as the best?

Every year had it’s tragedies and it’s triumphs. If I had to choose, I’d probably say 2018. That was our second trip to NZ and we had such a wonderful, fabulous, gorgeous time.

Has your taste in music changed in the past ten years or do you think music in general has changed?

Not really on both counts. I’ve always had eclectic taste in music. I find something worthy in every genre but not everything in any genre agrees with me. I don’t think music has really changed. There are new mixes, new songs, but music is still music. It still has magic that can lift the heart, it is the window to the soul.

Are you heavier or lighter than you were ten years ago?

Believe it or not I’m within a pound of where I was in 2010. My weight is pretty steady. I seem unsuitable to weight loss I’ve dropped 70 pounds from my heaviest and, apparently, here I will stay since that’s been over 20 years ago, I play around with a few pounds, up then down, then up, then down but I don’t let it get over 10 up EVER!

How many cars have you owned in the past decade?

Two, in 2015, my beloved Honda Civic went to the big auto museum in the sky with 300,000 miles on it. We replaced her with a 2015 Honda FIT which we still have. 😉

As always, if you don’t care to participate, no worries, no pressure. And to anybody else reading, you’re tagged too if you’d like to participate and tell us a little about the highs and lows of the 20teens. I think y’all might have some interesting stories. 🙂

  1. Thanks for taking part. Wow, you were certainly busy in the past 10 years, though I am so sorry about your personal family losses.
I’d love to go back to NZ as I loved it there. Sadly we are too old, not clever enough and broke, so can’t move there.
