The Goddess Shook in Anger – a Poetics Tuesday offering

Darkside

She watched them as they traveled
on her oceans bright and blue
She watched them as they gathered
with their smiles all bright and new
She watched them dance with wild abandon
around her sacred tree
She smiled to hear their laughter
in the days when the hearts was free

But children grow, as children will
and forget their loving ways
no more picnics, starlight wonderings
for work now filled their days
They ravaged and exploited
as life became a chore
they stole, abused and sacrificed
from forest to ocean floor

The Goddess lives forever
but no so humankind
Sister Moon wept her song
when Mother said “it’s time”
She shook herself and caterwauled
and mountain tops met sea
acid rain poured down upon them
as humans prayed for mercy

The earth lies still and silent
seas dark and bare of life and
mountains bleed beneath the moon
for when the Goddess shook in anger
The end came all too soon

  1. JP these lines got me in the solar plexus:
    “Sister Moon wept her song
when Mother said β€œit’s time” ”
I love how you put this together, with a loving Mother watching her children at play, and then they grew up.
