The Party

She wandered through the party. Surrounded by happy, laughing people, her smile firmly in place. A few more moments and she could disappear. Back to the protection of the shadows, away from this glaring light of life. A nod here, a handshake there, she made for the exit.

She was nearly overwhelmed by frivolous emotions from the party goers, their raucous laughter covering the deeper, darker feelings.  Greed, lust, jealousy, hatred, all covered by a thin veneer of forced joy.  Like yesterday’s child, blindfolded, disoriented, groping for … something, she stumbled blindly through the crowd.

  1. Social get togethers are not for every one. It is said to be fun. But for some people, specially those with social anxiety, a get together could be nerve wracking. Add to that false greetings, showing off, jealousy and leg pooling.
