Your prompt for JusJoJan 2019, January 28th is brought to you by Dan! Click here to find his last post and say hi while you’re there! Dan’s word for our prompt today is “testify.” Use it anywhere in your post or make it the theme of your post. Have fun!

Solanj sat in the psychiatrist’s office, hands folded in her lap. Dressed in everyday business wear, not too expensive, not too cheap. Just another woman checking on an ailing relative. That was her disguise and just like all her other personas this one worked well.

The psychiatrist, Dr. Brouns watched her through thinly veiled patronizing eyes. “Yes Ms. Doe, I know you are concerned but while your sister has made great progress, she is not yet ready to receive visitors.”

Solanj’s eyes tightened “You allowed the Constables to see her. To ascertain whether or not she could testify against her attackers. If that did not unduly upset her, I fail to see why a visit from her only relative would.”

“Because, my dear, she can barely speak, has no memory of the attack. And by the by, she did not speak to the Constables, she began shrieking as soon as they entered the room. They left satisfied that she is unfit.” The psychiatrist turned his head in an obvious dismissal.

Solanj was on her feet now, hands planted aggressively on the desk facing the doctor down. Steely eyes bored into his, “You have not answered the question, why can I not visit with her?”

Dr. Brouns tensed, he had dealt with distressed relatives before but this woman unnerved him. He took a slow breath “Because my dear, she knows you. Seeing you may cause her to relive memories she is not yet prepared to accept. It could send her back into the catatonic state.”

Solanj turned to go “Very well Dr. Brouns, for now.” She walked stately from the office.

Til next time ~Peace ~JPP
