30 day song challenge – day 17

30 day song challenge

Today’s prompt – a song you’d sing duet with someone on karaoke

Hmmmm, there’s so many. I used to karaoke all the time. Then I got sober. Let me tell you it’s a whole different ball game getting up there stone. cold. sober. It’s still fun, it’s just very different when you can actually remember it the next day. I’ve done this one solo and duet many times, sometimes on request, sometimes not.  😉

King of the Road

Trailer for sale or rent
rooms to let, fifty cents
no phone, no pool, no pets
I ain’t got no cigarettes
Ah but four hours of pushing broom
buys a eight by twelve four bit room
I’m a man of means, by no means
King of the Road

Third boxcar, midnight train
destination Banger, Maine
old worn out suit and shoes
I don’t pay no union dues
I smoke old stoggies I have found
short but not too big around
I’m a man of means, by no means
King of the Road

I know every engineer on every train
and all the children and all of their names
and every handout in every town
and every lock that ain’t locked
when no one’s around

I sing… Trailer for sale or rent
rooms to let fifty cents
no phone, no pool, no pets
I ain’t got no cigarettes
Ah but four hours of pushing broom
buys a eight by twelve four bit room
I’m a man of means, by no means
King of the Road

I’m man of means by no means
King of the Road

Songwriters: Roger Miller

~ all lyrics are the product of my memory. Any discrepancies or divergences from actual fact should not be viewed as errors but as all natural variations proving that I did, in fact, live through the 60’s.

Til next time ~Peace ~JPP
