Song Lyric Sunday 12.1.18

Song Lyric Sunday

For Helen’s challenge, this week’s prompt is First so, I’m posting this on the First of December. Take THAT euphemism! hah. Anyway, It’s that time of year again. Christmas carols are playing and lights are hung everywhere you go. So, I’ve decided that for December’s SLS entries, I’m going to do a Christmas song of some sort.

Disclaimer. I am NOT a Christmas kind of person. I say “happy holidays” and stuff like that. I don’t hang decorations (much) or put up trees. The kids and grandkids get that old standard fall back, money. I love the idea of Christmas, the actual holiday, not so much. It’s too crazy, frenetic, commercial for my personal tastes so I keep it low key and celebrate the season my own way with lots and lots of sarcastic humor (it’s better to laugh than cry).

Accordingly, following is one of my favorite Christmas songs, and Christmas stories.

You’re a mean one Mr. Grinch

“You’re a mean one Mr. Grinch
you really are a heel
you’re as cuddly as a cactus
you’re as charming as an eel
Mister Grinch, you’re a bad banana
with a greasy black peel

You’re a monster, Mr. Grinch
your heart’s an empty hole
your brain is full of spiders
you’ve got garlic in your soul
Mister Grinch,
I wouldn’t touch you with a
thirty-nine and a half foot pole

You’re a foul one Mr. Grinch
You have termites in your smile
You have all the tender sweetness
of a seasick crocodile
Mister Grinch,
given the choice between the two of you
I’d take the seasick crocodile

You’re a rotter Mr. Grinch
the king of sinful sots
you’re heart’s a dead tomato
splotched with moldy purple spots
Mister Grinch,
You’re a three-decker sauerkraut and toadstool sandwich
with arsenic sauce.

You nauseate me Mr. Grinch
with a nauseauous super ‘naus
you’re a crooked dirty jockey
and you drive a crooked hoss
Mister Grinch
Your soul is an appalling dumpheap overflowing with the most disgraceful
assortment of rubbish imaginable mangled up
in tangled up knots

You’re a foul one Mr. Grinch
you’re a nasty wasty skunk
your heart is full of unwashed socks
your soul is full of gunk
Mister Grinch,
The three words that best describe you are as follows, and I quote
Stink, Stank, Stunk”

Lyrics by Dr. Seuss ~ all lyrics are the product of my memory, which is often faulty. Any discrepancies or divergences from actual fact should be viewed as evidence that I did, in fact, live through the 60’s and not as errors.

Till next time ~Peace ~JPP
